NRL scores 2023 LIVE | Wests Tigers v Newcastle Knights, St George-Illawarra Dragons v Gold Coast Titans, news, results, updates
Alex Twal’s NRL duck egg has continued after he blew one of his best chances to score yet.
Twal was falling over the try line underneath the black dot when Tyson Frizell knocked it from his hand as he made the tackle.
Twal is making his 104th NRL appearance this afternoon against the Knights.
“It’s a cruel, cruel game,” Andrew Johns said in commentary for Nine.
The Tigers were given the field position after a bizarre sequence that saw Knights winger Dom Young sinbinned.
Luke Brooks made a fantastic line break down the Tigers left wing, and shaped to pass to Brent Naden on his inside.
He didn’t, and Naden was tackled by Young.
Referee Peter Gough immediately sent Young to the bin, before the Knights bizarrely challenged the ruling.
It was obviously upheld – Young was still off and they lost their captains challenge – and the decision left commentators scratching their heads.
“Brooks shaped a pass to him, so he probably thought he’s going to get the ball, ‘I’ll tackle him’. He never got the ball,” Phil Gould said for Nine.
“So you’ve got to take your medicine. But why challenge him? Who challenged that? Jackson Hastings challenged that? That is odd.”
